Playing mms video streams on a Mac

How to view Microsoft Media Server (mms) video streams and other Microsoft Media video formats (eg. .wmv videos) on a Mac?

The answer stays in Flip4Mac plug-in for Apple’s QuicTime Player, but note: it will not play content that is protected with Windows Media digital rights management (DRM).

Although there is a version of Windows Media Player for Mac, this one is outdated, freezing on version 9.

Do not forget, more info, as well as download links are available on Microsoft’s – Mactopia website.

Yeah, I use Flip4Mac, and many of it’s upgraded features, a lot….excellent app, but I still see a number of sites offering video content in some weird, unsupported format. It would be great if they could all stick to some sort of standard. There can still be WMV, but keep it within a common standard, please…any providers listening? Would it be so hard to check with the Flip4Mac people, before you post WMV content, to make sure “everyone” will be able to view it? Or…better yet, switch to Quicktime….now there’s a pipe dream.
